The Chicago Bears moved the No. 1 pick last season.
In hindsight, it seemed like the right decision, as they got a legitimate wide receiver in D.J. Moore and valuable assets, including this year’s No. 1 selection.
Now, they’re not likely to take the same approach.
With Caleb Williams set to take his talents to the pros, they’re firmly expected to take him first overall and move on from Justin Fields.
Nonetheless, despite what most analysts and scouts seem to think, former WR Keyshawn Johnson thinks that would be a mistake.
Talking on “Undisputed,” he explained how the Bears have set Fields up for failure with all the uncertainty and the several offensive coordinators and head coaches he’s had.
He believes they’re falling for the “Patrick Mahomes 2.0” narrative and that they’re too scared to pass on a guy like Williams, just like they did when they took Mitch Trubisky over the Kansas City Chiefs star.
“Ryan Pole can be smart and trade the No. 1 overall pick,” Johnson said.

He also thinks they’re doing a disservice to one of the most talented quarterbacks in the game by never giving him any weapons to work with.
Johnson made a case for the Bears getting at least six draft picks for the No. 1 pick, including a couple of first-round choices, and then using those picks to build around Fields.
Trading Fields, on the other hand, might not get them that much.
It makes sense on the surface, but Williams will also be on a rookie deal, so he’d be much cheaper, and the Bears will also factor that into the equation.
