The speculation surrounding Klay Thompson’s future has been increasing, especially following his disappointing performance in the Warriors’ painful defeat at the hands of the Kings.
The iconic Warrior went 0-10 in the 118-94 loss and was not interested in discussing the uncertainty regarding his future with the team after the game.
“Why are you all not focusing on the present, bro?,” Thompson exclaimed, as reported by NBC Sports. “Honestly, I haven’t really thought much about it due to the intense season we had and the dedication required to play all those games and give our best. So, I haven’t delved deep into the future because I still need to process the year we’ve had, filled with highs and lows.”
The 34-year-old is now getting ready to enter free agency, and NBA insider Shams Charania has indicated that the decision ahead for Klay is probably the toughest he’s faced so far.
He must choose between staying with the team he’s been with for his entire 11-year career and accepting a significant pay cut, or exploring opportunities in the open market.
“Klay Thompson is open to exploring his options in free agency. … I’ve been told that his free agency will be about respect, it will be about principles and his standing within the Warriors organization. He’s won four championships, he’s made a comeback from an ACL injury and Achilles injury, and because of his contributions, he feels like he deserves a good payday,” Charania shared on FanDuel TV.
“It will be the toughest decision of his life if he ends up leaving for another team, having to tell Steph Curry, telling Draymond Green, informing them that he’s moving on. But he will be open to exploring the market.”
