Kliff Kingsbury has played a key role in the Washington Commanders becoming one of the NFL’s biggest surprises this season as their offensive coordinator.
Washington is in first place in the NFC East with a 5-2 record and leads the league in points even though they aren’t stacked with talent at the skill positions.
In Week 8, the Commanders host the Chicago Bears, and if quarterback Jayden Daniels is able to shake off a rib injury and play, it will be a marquee matchup between him and Caleb Williams.
Kingsbury recently praised the Bears rookie QB and even compared him to Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes in one aspect.
“Just a tremendous competitor, wants to be great, works at it. And just insane talent, some of the freaky Mahomes-type throws he can make, and the vision, extending plays, the things he can do and throw off platform was really unique,” Kingsbury said, via Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.

Williams excelled at making things happen off-script by ad-libbing while at the University of Southern California, but there were some concerns that he wouldn’t quite excel at running scripted plays in the NFL.
He got off to a rough start, but he has thrown seven touchdown passes and has had just one interception in the past three games, all Chicago wins.
Meanwhile, while Daniels has just six touchdown passes through Week 7, he leads the NFL with a 75.6 percent pass completion rate and has run for 372 yards and four touchdowns while throwing only two interceptions.
This game involving the top two picks from the 2024 NFL Draft could go a long way in determining who wins Offensive Rookie of the Year.
