Jurgen Klopp Discusses Mohamed Salah’s Remarkable Work Ethic
Jurgen Klopp, the former manager of Liverpool, has shared insights into the intense training habits that have made Mohamed Salah one of football’s most prolific finishers, including a unique project he undertook in his own backyard.
While chatting with Peter Crouch on a recent podcast after the Liverpool Legends match at Anfield, Klopp expressed that he has not encountered another player with the same intensity and dedication as the Egyptian forward, who plans to leave the club after the 2025/26 season.
Klopp on Salah’s Development as a Finisher
Klopp explained that Salah’s precision in front of goal stems not only from his innate talent but also from a relentless pursuit of improvement, motivated by his earlier struggles in Italy.
“He began to excel in scoring because he was dissatisfied with his finishing in Rome, so he constructed a goal in his backyard. I can imagine he practiced there for seven hours every day. Each summer he’d return after his break with a new skill or a fresh concept.”
Klopp noted how Salah’s continuous growth has kept him at the top of his game even as his role in the team has evolved.
“Recall last season when we claimed the title—he not only scored but was instrumental in assists, adapting his style by cutting inside instead of taking a shot, which opened opportunities for teammates like Cody Gakpo. He has an exceptional knack for setting these situations up perfectly.”
“Salah consistently brings something new to the table; he won’t stop. At 33, he has another five or six productive years ahead, without a doubt.”
Salah’s Scoring Record is Impressive
The statistics from Salah’s tenure at Liverpool reinforce Klopp’s accolades. Since joining in 2017, he has scored an impressive 255 goals, positioning him third among the club’s all-time leading goal-scorers.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals |
| Premier League | 310 | 189 |
| Champions League | 82 | 47 |
| Other Competitions | 44 | 19 |
| Total (Liverpool) | 436 | 255 |
Despite a challenging season in 2025/26 for the team, Salah has still netted 10 goals across all competitions. As he approaches his final seven matches with Liverpool, Klopp’s insights remind fans that Salah’s remarkable accomplishments will be difficult to match in the future.
