Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has come to the defense of Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson following some unfavorable reviews of the player’s performances. The Senegal striker has been the target of public scrutiny since arriving on a season-long loan in early October.

The 24-year-old has featured nine times for the Bundesliga champions thus far, contributing two goals, both of which came in the Champions League.

Kompany, who is gearing up for a German Cup second-round match against Cologne on Wednesday, expressed his belief in Jackson’s contributions. “I have a different perspective on Nicolas Jackson than what the public might have. Of course, more goals will certainly quell the debate,” he stated during a recent press conference. “I genuinely believe he has already made a significant impact.”

Bayern Munich remains on a hot streak, having secured 13 consecutive victories across all competitions this season.

With key players like Michael Olise, Luis Díaz, and top scorer Harry Kane consistently starting, Jackson faces stiff competition for playing time against talents such as Serge Gnabry and the promising 17-year-old Lennart Karl.

“No one’s spot in the starting lineup is guaranteed. I don’t like the term ‘shoo-in’ because every player must earn their minutes through performance,” Kompany added, highlighting the importance of teamwork ahead of their upcoming Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen and a vital match against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

Aside from suspended goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and long-term absentees like Alphonso Davies, Hiroki Ito, and Jamal Musiala, Kompany has a healthy squad to choose from.

Cologne currently holds the eighth position in the Bundesliga standings, amassing 11 points from eight matches. Kompany acknowledged their strong defensive display and noted, “They have done exceptionally well, especially in defense. I admire their urgency in closing down spaces to limit scoring opportunities.”

“They also pose a threat on counter-attacks, having troubled numerous teams this season. We know we are up against a capable side, but we are heading to Cologne with a strong desire to succeed in this cup tie.”
