Korda Clinches Third ATP Title at Delray Beach Tennis Tournament

Sebastian Korda secured his third ATP title at the Delray Beach Open after defeating fellow American Tommy Paul with a score of 6-4, 6-3. The final, held on a Sunday afternoon, showcased Korda’s impressive performance as he overcame a significant challenge while serving for the championship at 5-3 in the second set, having faced a daunting 0-40 deficit. The match concluded in one hour and 22 minutes.

Reflecting on his victory, Korda, currently ranked World No. 50, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It’s as satisfying as it can get, winning a tournament (after serving) from 0-40 down.” He emphasized the mental resilience he developed in recent weeks, highlighting his commitment to trusting his game and maintaining a positive mindset.

Throughout the tournament, Korda was undeniably the standout player, eliminating three of the top five seeds, including No. 3 Paul, No. 2 Casper Ruud, and No. 3 Flavio Cobolli. His path to the final began with victories over Mackenzie McDonald and Alex Michelsen in the opening rounds.

In the title match, Korda adeptly navigated extremely windy conditions, serving at an impressive 67 percent and registering nine aces against just two double faults. Despite being broken once, he quickly responded by breaking back in the very first game of the second set.

As the match drew to a close, it appeared that Paul might extend the contest with a second break. However, Korda displayed exceptional composure, saving four crucial break points to seal his victory. “It means a lot,” Korda remarked. “I’ve been through some stuff the past couple of months and years. I’ve lost a lot of finals, and now to get one here in Delray… this is where I made my first ATP final, so it’s like a full-circle day. I’m just happy.”

With this victory, Korda showcases not only his skill on the court but also his determination and growth as a player, marking a significant moment in his career.
