Krejcikova Secures Second Grand Slam Title with Dominant Victory Against Paolini in Wimbledon

Barbora Krejcikova is a two-time Grand Slam champion after beating Jasmine Paolini in the 2024 Wimbledon Championships final.

The Czech player produced a remarkable effort a few years ago to win Roland Garros, basically out of nowhere. Nobody saw it coming, but for the fortnight, she was the best player in Paris and got the trophy.

The same thing happened at this year’s Wimbledon, where she suddenly found an amazing level to make the final and win it. In fairness, quite a few things went right for her as the draws cleaned itself of all the major players, leaving only Elena Rybakina as the top seed, but she bested her.

Krejcikova stepped up and beat Rybakina to find herself in the final, so it’s hard to say that it was a fluke. Her opponent in the final, Paolini, stood in the Roland Garros final weeks ago, so she was a worthy opponent.

An early break put Krejcikova on the right path, and she simply kept going from there. The Czech player was hitting better than her opponent, who is mostly known as a fighter and not a purpose hitter.

She simply wasn’t good enough in the opening set, as the former French Open winner won it 6-2. The fact that Krejcikova was serving really well certainly added to Paolini’s problems, as she couldn’t create any kind of pressure in that opening set.

The second set was completely different, as it opened with an early break for the Italian player, which flipped the script. She played much better in the second set, but her opponent was also quite a bit worse.

She couldn’t keep the ball in play and sent it wide too many times, as the recent Roland Garros finalist won the second set 6-2 to force the decider. The final set was competitive to start, but both players were able to keep their serve.

Krejcikova reverted back to a solid level and eventually got the break at 3-3, taking a 4-3 lead. From there, it was a pretty easy cruise to the finish line, where she won her maiden Wimbledon trophy, winning the match 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
