Kristaps Porzingis reflects on his time playing alongside Luka Doncic in Dallas: “It just wasn’t the right fit”

Kristaps Porzingis on his relationship with Luka Doncic in Dallas: "It didn't work out"

Kristaps Porzingis and the Boston Celtics are set to face his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, in the NBA Finals. The series holds special significance for Porzingis, given his past in Dallas.

Ahead of the Finals, Porzingis spoke to the media, acknowledging that his partnership with Mavericks star Luka Doncic did not meet expectations.

“It didn’t work out. I’m not even thinking about that right now. I’m thinking about the job ahead. We can think about that later,” Porzingis stated via Brian Robb.

Porzingis has played a crucial role for the Celtics this season, averaging 20.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2 assists in 29.6 minutes per game.

The matchup between the Celtics and the Mavericks adds an intriguing layer to the series, as Porzingis faces his former team. Despite the past challenges in Dallas, Porzingis is focused on the present and the task at hand.

His tenure with the Mavericks was marked by high expectations but ultimately did not yield the desired results. The combination of Porzingis and Doncic was anticipated to be a formidable duo, but their on-court chemistry never fully materialized.

Porzingis’s time in Dallas was also affected by injuries, which hindered his ability to consistently contribute. Now, with the Celtics, he has found a new role and flourished, becoming a key part of Boston’s roster.
