In the third round of the Amundi Evian Championship, Australian Stephanie Kyriacou took the lead with a birdie on the final hole, edging ahead of Ayaka Furue and Lauren Coughlin.
Kyriacou, a 23-year-old from Sydney, shot a 67 in hot and sunny conditions at Evian Resort Golf Club, bringing her 54-hole total to 14-under-par in the fourth women’s major of the season.
Ranked 100th in the world, Kyriacou had a long day on Saturday, playing 19-and-a-half holes after the second round was suspended overnight due to thunderstorms. She finished her second round early in the morning before starting her third round five hours later.
Trailing Furue by two strokes at the start of the day, Kyriacou caught up on the back nine as both players battled for the lead. Coughlin, however, set the clubhouse target at 13-under with two eagles in her round.
Kyriacou made several birdies and a bogey on her way to finishing strong with a birdie on the last hole to take the outright lead.
Reflecting on her round, Kyriacou mentioned the challenges of the course and the excitement of being in contention on a major championship Sunday.
Furue, who trailed by just one shot, was not satisfied with her round and mentioned her struggle to create birdie opportunities.
Pajaree Anannarukarn sits in fourth place, three strokes behind the leader, while Ally Ewing had an impressive round to share fifth place with Hye-Jin Choi and Patty Tavatanakit.
Georgia Hall is the only English player to make the cut, currently tied for 21st place, while Charley Hull missed the cut by five shots. Surrey amateur Lottie Woad finished at +3 for her two rounds.
