Lakers actively pursuing Dan Hurley for coaching position, decision timeframe extended to next week

Lakers 'Working To Convince' Dan Hurley To Take Job, Decision Not Expected Until Next Week

According to reports on Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers have identified Dan Hurley as their top choice for the next head coach. Previously, the Lakers were considering J.J. Redick and James Borrego, with Redick being seen as the more likely candidate. It was expected that a decision would be made after Redick finishes his broadcasting duties for the NBA Finals.

While Hurley is not under the same time constraints, a decision is not anticipated until at least next week.

“The Lakers are actively trying to persuade Dan Hurley, the UConn coach and back-to-back champion, to accept the head coaching position,” reported Shams Charania on Run It Back. “It is likely that Hurley will decide over the course of the next week, possibly extending into the following week.”

Hurley has previously expressed interest in coaching in the NBA in the future.
