Offseason workouts continue across the NFL, as teams are holding their mandatory minicamps this week.
Recently, teams held OTAs, which aren’t mandatory, but obviously coaches and executives want as many of their key players to participate in order to be thoroughly prepared once training camp and the regular season begin.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson sat out of several OTA sessions, and according to the big contract he signed last year, he has forfeited a $750,000 workout bonus.
When he was asked about it, he didn’t want to discuss it.
“I never discuss my contract up here. I’m not about to start today,” Jackson said, per Jamison Hensley of ESPN.
Jackson’s future with the Ravens was in serious doubt going into last offseason after they used their non-exclusive franchise tag on him, but he eventually agreed to a five-year, $260 million deal.
With the uncertainty about his future gone, he turned in his best season in a while, throwing for 3,678 yards and 24 touchdowns while completing 67.2 percent of his pass attempts, earning him his second MVP award.
The task for the Ravens this season is to win their third Super Bowl championship and their first in the Jackson era, and with four-time Pro Bowler Derrick Henry now in the offensive backfield, they seem equipped enough to have a real shot at doing so.
In Jackson’s six seasons with the Ravens, they have reached the AFC Championship Game just once — that was last season, when they lost there in meek fashion to the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
