BSL top team – Efes (25-4) managed to deliver another win on Monday. This time they beat eleventh ranked Darussafaka Lassa (12-17) in Istanbul 87-74. The former international guard Shane Larkin (182-1992, college: Miami, FL) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points and 5 assists. American forward Will Clyburn (201-1990, college: Iowa St.) contributed with 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. American James Woodard (191-1994, college: Tulsa, agency: BIG) answered with 16 points for Darussafaka. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 25-4 record. Darussafaka lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Bahcesehir. Anadolu Efes are looking forward to face Bursaspor (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Darussafaka will play against Turk Telekom (#11) in Ankara and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Ankara was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Besiktas (20-9) played at the court of 8th ranked Turk Telekom (13-16). Besiktas managed to secure a 6-point victory 89-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Turk Telekom. American guard Jonah Mathews (190-1998, college: USC) stepped up and scored 25 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and Marko Simonovic chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). International Yigitcan Saybir (203-1999) responded with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Besiktas moved-up to third place, which they share with Pinar Karsiyaka. Turk Telekom at the other side dropped to the ninth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Tofas and Buyukcekmece. Besiktas will play against bottom-ranked Samsunspor (#16) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Turk Telekom will play against Darussafaka (#13) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
A very close game took place in Istanbul between Buyukcekmece and Petkimspor. Twelfth ranked Buyukcekmece (13-16) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Petkimspor (14-15). Buyukcekmece managed to escape with a 2-point win 96-94 on Sunday evening. Yannick Franke nailed 22 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. David Efianayi came up with 34 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Petkim in the defeat. Buyukcekmece moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Tofas and Turk Telekom. Loser Petkimspor keeps the seventh position with 15 games lost. Buyukcekmece’s supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Istanbul to the arena Fenerbahce.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 29: bottom-ranked Samsunspor was smashed by Galatasaray on the road 113-69. Pinar Karsiyaka destroyed Merkezefendi on its own court 97-73. Manisa outscored Cagdas BS in a road game 87-67. Bahcesehir recorded a loss to Tofas at home 85-90. Cagdas BS was defeated by Tofas on the opponent’s court 80-78. The most impressive performance of 29th round was 19 points and 4 assists by Marcus Denmon of Tofas.
Galatasaray – Samsunspor 113-69No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Galatasaray (15-14) crushed bottom-ranked Samsun (3-26) in Istanbul 113-69 on Friday. Galatasaray shot the lights out from three sinking 20 long-distance shots on high 51.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Samsunspor’s players. Slovenian Klemen Prepelic (191-1992) nailed 13 points and 5 assists for the winning side and the former international center Samet Geyik (206-1993) accounted for 14 points and 5 rebounds. Galatasaray’s coach Yakup Sekizkok felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Bora Satir (190-2002) came up with a triple-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists and center Muhammed Senli (205-1992) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Samsunspor in the defeat. Galatasaray maintains sixth place with 15-14 record. Samsunspor lost thirteenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 26 lost games. Galatasaray will meet Tofas (#10) in the next round. Samsunspor will play against Besiktas (#3) in Istanbul and hope to secure a win.
