LeBron James and Team USA’s close call against South Sudan prompts strong reactions

USA

Team USA narrowly defeated South Sudan 101-100 in a hard-fought game. Despite being competitive, South Sudan faces challenges as one of their players, Wenyen Gabriel, revealed that they lack indoor basketball courts in their country. They come together as a team for only a few weeks out of the year.

LeBron James saved Team USA from a potential upset with a crucial driving layup in the final eight seconds of the game. Although it was a close call, LeBron expressed his excitement about facing tough competition, stating, “At least we’re getting tested. I like getting tested, baby.” He led Team USA in scoring with 25 points.

Following the game, USA head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged his shortcomings in preparing the team but praised South Sudan for their performance. He recognized that their confidence early in the game posed a challenge for Team USA.

Team USA remains unbeaten in their exhibition games leading up to the Paris Olympics, with their final warm-up match scheduled against Germany on Monday. They will meet South Sudan again after the Olympics in their second tournament game.

Team USA’s first official Olympic match is against Nikola Jokic and Serbia on July 28th.
