Lee Sharpe criticizes Antony’s response to Coventry City at the end of the match – Latest Updates on Manchester United’s News and Transfers

Lee Sharpe blasts Antony's reaction to Coventry City at full-time - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United winger Antony has once again found himself in the middle of controversy.

The much-maligned winger has endured a disastrous season for the Red Devils, as he has not scored in the Premier League in over a year and continues to be in and out of the team despite Erik ten Hag hardly being flush with options.

The FA Cup has been some brief respite for the Brazilian, scoring two goals and providing one assist earlier in the competition, including a crucial late equaliser against Liverpool in front of the Stretford End in the quarter finals.

The Brazilian’s season started in the worst possible way as he has been embroiled in legal problems back in his home country and is also currently being investigated in England.

His form has also taken a massive hit and the Old Trafford side are reportedly keen to rid themselves of a player they paid a ludicrous £86 million for just two summers ago.

Antony made the headlines again for the wrong reason as he was seen goading Coventry City fans and players after United had won the penalty shootout which booked them a place in the final of the FA Cup – against local rivals Manchester City, in a repeat of last year’s competition.

This unpleasant reaction contrasted sharply with the majority of the Red Devils players, who sheepishly made their way to penalty hero Rasmus Hojlund, looking almost embarrassed to celebrate after throwing away a comfortable 3-0 lead in the second half.

The Peoples Person has already commented on how Antony’s antics highlight the poor mentality that is running through the team at the moment.

Former United winger, Lee Sharpe, also offered his view on on the actions of the Brazilian. Speaking to talkSport he claimed, “I think Antony is maybe a little bit too young and a little bit too naive as to how to behave after dodging a bullet”.

“It’s not like he set the world alight when he did come on. I think Harry Maguire was humble enough to understand what had gone on and that they had got a little bit lucky”.

“The goal at the end I thought just about summed it up. They were so lucky to get away with that for offside. To be goading the Coventry players after what had happened I think is a little bit out of order”.

Antony’s reaction will not do much to endear himself with opposition fans or even his own as he fights a seemingly losing battle to save his Manchester United career.
