Leeds United Dominate Norwich City in Disappointing Playoff Defeat for Josh Sargent

Josh Sargent, Norwich City hammered by Leeds United in forgettable playoff loss

Josh Sargent and Norwich City had a disappointing end to their EFL Championship season on Thursday night.

The Canaries’ promotion hopes came to an end at Elland Road after a 4-0 loss to Leeds United in their second leg semifinal tie. Sargent started the match but was substituted off at halftime, watching the remainder of the game from the sidelines.

Leeds United took an early lead through Ilia Gruev after only seven minutes, adding two more goals before halftime. Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter extended the hosts’ lead to 3-0 before the break.

Sargent managed one shot on target during the game, but Norwich City struggled to make an impact.

Crysencio Summerville scored Leeds United’s fourth goal in the 68th minute, securing the victory for Daniel Farke’s team in West Yorkshire.

Leeds United will now progress to the playoff final at Wembley Stadium on May 26th, where they will face either Southampton or West Bromwich Albion.

After finishing as Norwich City’s top goalscorer for the season, Sargent may be seeking a move this summer following the team’s failure to return to the Premier League. The U.S. men’s national team forward scored 16 goals in the EFL Championship, marking his second consecutive season with double-digit goals.
