The 2024 NFL season will mark the next era of New England Patriots football as the team hit a hard reset within the organization after decades of success.

Former head coach Bill Belichick and the Patriots parted ways and opened the door for Jerod Mayo to handle the reins.

Aside from Mayo, New England potentially drafted their next franchise quarterback in Drake Maye whom they selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Mayo and Maye will be tasked with leading the Patriots back to the playoffs, a place they haven’t been to in years now.

While there are a lot of question marks regarding the new regime and roster, New England can take solace in knowing that former special teams standout Matthew Slater remains with the team in an advisory capacity.

However, it looks like Slater got a title update which reflected his playing days via Mike Kadlick of CLNS Media.

“Matthew Slater’s new title with the Patriots is officially ‘special assistant to the head coach,'” Kadlick reported.

Slater played all 16 years of his career with the Patriots and primarily served as their special teams ace as he was known for making plays in that phase of the game.

He was part of three Super Bowl championships and made eight All-Pro teams, making him arguably the greatest special teams player ever.

Now, though, he’ll look to bring his expertise and knowledge to the sidelines where he’ll help Mayo acclimate to being a head coach and leading a New England team that has promise.
