Leny Yoro is travelling to the UK for a medical and to finalize personal terms as Manchester United aim to secure the highly sought-after centre-back from Lille.
According to David Ornstein, United reached an agreement with Lille last week on a fee of €62 million (£52 million), but Yoro still needed to accept the move.
Originally preferring a transfer to Real Madrid, Yoro was drawn to the idea of joining the Spanish giants.
However, Madrid has shown no indication of meeting the agreed price between United and Lille, prompting the Ligue 1 club to favor a deal with United.
Lille is keen to sell Yoro this summer to avoid losing him as a free agent when his contract expires in June 2025.
The 18-year-old France youth international has since warmed to the prospect of moving to Old Trafford.
This latest development marks a significant step forward, although final details still need to be resolved.
If successful, United will secure a generational talent regarded highly across Europe to strengthen their defense.
In addition to Yoro, United has maintained interest in other defenders like Matthijs de Ligt of Bayern Munich and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
However, any further defensive signings would likely depend on creating financial and squad space through departures.
Yoro’s services have been pursued by other top clubs including Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, but his initial preference for Real Madrid seemed to position them as the front-runners.
Despite this, United’s persistence has brought them close to completing the transfer. Barring any late surprises, Yoro’s move to Manchester appears imminent.
