Liverpool Ready to Swoop in for 18-Year-Old if Real Madrid Misses Out

Real Madrid Manager Carlo Ancelotti

According to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid is currently leading the race to sign Lille youngster Leny Yoro in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, if the 18-year-old doesn’t make the move to Santiago Bernabeu, Liverpool is poised to swoop in and secure the defender.

Real Madrid Leading The Race For Lille Star Leny Yoro

Under Carlo Ancelotti’s management, Real Madrid had a successful 2023-24 season, clinching the La Liga title, UEFA Champions League, and Supercopa de Espana. The club has already made a statement of ambition by signing Kylian Mbappe, widely regarded as one of the best players in the world.

Looking to further strengthen their squad, Real Madrid has set their sights on Yoro, one of the most highly rated young center-backs. Romano reported in his Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside that Real Madrid is the frontrunner for Yoro’s signature, as the player has expressed a desire to join the club.

Romano stated:

Real Madrid has been closely monitoring Yoro for some time now, considering him a talent of the next generation. Yoro’s preference is to play for Madrid, and personal terms are unlikely to pose a hurdle to this deal. If Real Madrid pursues the signing of the Lille star, he will be part of their squad next season.

Despite having defenders like David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao, and Nacho Fernandez, Real Madrid is looking for a more reliable option, especially with injury concerns and unsettled futures among their current center-backs.

Liverpool Waiting In The Wings To Capitalize On Potential Los Blancos Slip-Up

While Real Madrid is leading the race, other top clubs, including Liverpool, are also monitoring Yoro’s situation closely. Liverpool has made their interest known and is prepared to make a move for the center-back if Real Madrid fails to secure his signature.

Romano mentioned:

Liverpool has shown interest in Yoro and has taken steps towards signing him, but they believe Real Madrid is likely to win the race for the player.

If Yoro’s move to the La Liga champions falls through, Liverpool will be ready to make a move.”

With Joel Matip leaving Liverpool this summer and Virgil van Dijk nearing the latter stages of his career, the Merseyside club is looking to secure a worthy successor in defense for the future.
