Liverpool Gains Ground in Marc Guéhi Chase
Liverpool appears to be in an advantageous position in their ongoing efforts to sign Marc Guéhi, with indications that the Crystal Palace defender is likely to make a move to Anfield in 2026.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has reported that Barcelona are no longer considered a viable option for Guéhi, leaving the Reds as the frontrunners.
The England international is at a pivotal juncture in his career at Palace. Starting January 1, he will have only six months remaining on his contract, which allows him the opportunity to negotiate a pre-contract deal with interested teams.
This development has sparked intensified speculation about his future, with several clubs across Europe keeping a close eye on the situation.
Liverpool’s Longstanding Interest in Guéhi
The Reds’ interest in Guéhi is not new. Last summer, Liverpool was on the verge of signing him on the transfer deadline day, but the deal ultimately fell through despite advancing discussions.
Since then, Liverpool has kept a keen interest in the defender, recognizing him as a potential long-term asset due to his leadership capabilities and consistent performances.
Tavolieri has now confirmed that Liverpool remains in a strong position, while Barcelona seems to have withdrawn from the race.
In his post on X, Tavolieri mentioned: “FC Barcelona close to ruling out Marc Guéhi. The English defender wants to decide his future soon, and Barca’s offer would be lower than those from English clubs. Liverpool still leading the race for Guéhi. Wait and see.”
Liverpool Surpasses Barcelona in Guéhi Negotiations

Barcelona’s financial constraints are reportedly a significant hurdle for them in negotiations.
The Catalan club has been unable to match the financial terms that Guéhi has been offered by Liverpool and other English teams.
For Liverpool, waiting patiently may be beneficial. With Barcelona’s inability to compete financially and a lack of decisive moves from other European clubs, the Reds seem well-positioned to become Guéhi’s next destination.
