Liverpool Targets PSG Winger as Salah’s Potential Replacement
Liverpool is reportedly considering Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola as they prepare for a possible departure of Mohamed Salah.
According to initial reports from the Daily Briefing, quite a number of sources suggest there’s a real chance that Salah could leave Anfield, prompting the Reds to keep an eye on Barcola as well as other options like Antoine Semenyo.
However, PSG currently seems disinterested in parting with Barcola. The club may even aim to extend the contract of the 23-year-old, whose current agreement lasts until 2028.
Is Barcola a Viable Option for Liverpool?
Even with PSG’s preference to retain Barcola, insiders believe he could still be a feasible target for Liverpool.
Due to intense competition within Luis Enrique’s squad, Barcola hasn’t secured a regular starting position at PSG, which could motivate him to explore opportunities elsewhere.
If Barcola were to join Liverpool to fill in for Salah, he would play a crucial role. Reports also indicate that high-profile clubs, such as Manchester United, may be interested in him as well.
“Liverpool has begun preliminary work on finding a replacement for Salah,” a knowledgeable industry insider told me. “They have been closely monitoring Bradley Barcola, a player they genuinely admire.”
Additional sources indicate that Barcola might be “open” to exploring new prospects, potentially paving the way for Liverpool to make a move.
What Can Barcola Contribute to Liverpool?
Barcola showcases speed, technical skills, and goal-scoring ability from the wings, and given his age, he likely has many promising years ahead.
This season, he has recorded six goals and five assists across all competitions for both club and country, demonstrating that he is consistently improving and contributing effectively to his team.
Nonetheless, replacing a player of Salah’s stature will be a significant challenge, as he has amassed 250 goals in 420 appearances for Liverpool.
Salah has regularly surpassed 30 goals in a season for the Reds, suggesting that Barcola alone may not suffice to match that level of production. The club will also need enhanced contributions from current forwards like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.
