Heading into the NFL offseason after winning a second consecutive Super Bowl title, the first order of business for the Kansas City Chiefs was retaining some of its best players on the defensive side of the football, namely defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed.
Although the Chiefs were expected to have a lot of competition for Jones’ services moving forward, Kansas City was able to sign him to a lucrative long-term deal fairly quickly, which made things a lot easier for the franchise moving forward.
The Chiefs decided to use the franchise tag to keep Sneed in Kansas City, but they also made it clear that he could seek a trade if he wasn’t happy with the situation.
Apparently, that’s what Sneed did with the Tennessee Titans becoming the interested party in terms of making a trade come to fruition.
Unfortunately for Sneed, the trade fell apart because Tennessee couldn’t agree to a multiyear deal with the star corner, according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.
“The Titans couldn’t sign off on it because of the final major hurdle: agreeing to a multiyear contract with Sneed, on whom the Chiefs placed the non-exclusive franchise tag earlier this month,” Taylor said.
As of right now, there’s no telling what will happen with this situation in Kansas City as Sneed could still get traded before the 2024 NFL season, but at this point in time, his immediate future is uncertain, to say the least.
Taylor also reported there were trade talks with the Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings, and Atlanta Falcons, which have all ended without a deal.
