London: Draper Concludes Season on a High Note

Jack Draper has announced that he will withdraw from competitive play for the remainder of the year due to a persistent shoulder injury. The British tennis star, currently ranked among the top players, has been grappling with a bruised humerus in his serving arm following his second-round exit against Marin Cilic at Wimbledon earlier this summer.

The 23-year-old left-hander from Sutton faced difficulties in his recent performance at the US Open, where he had to retire before his scheduled second-round match against Zizou Bergs after previously defeating Federico Agustin Gomez. In his statement regarding the injury, Draper expressed his disappointment, saying, “Unfortunately, the injury to my arm is something I have to rest and means I’ll be sitting out the rest of 2025. It is very difficult for me to accept as I was building some incredible momentum this year and playing some great stuff.”

Despite the setback, Draper remains optimistic and determined to return stronger, citing his motivation to fulfill his potential as a player. He was poised to defend his title in Vienna next month, but this decision means he will forfeit the ranking points earned from last year’s victory in the event. Additionally, he was set to participate in the Kings Slam exhibition tournament in Saudi Arabia in October and had aspirations of making his debut at the ATP Finals in Turin.

This year had seen Draper achieve a milestone by winning his first Masters title at Indian Wells and making a significant leap into the top five of the ATP rankings. However, his progress was hampered by injury, including a two-and-a-half-month absence due to a shoulder problem in the summer of 2023 and hip issues last December. As he prepares for recovery, fans and analysts alike are hopeful that he will harness this experience to make a strong comeback in 2026. Time will tell how this journey unfolds for Draper as he looks forward to returning to the court.
