London | GB drawn away to France in 2024 BJK Cup Qualifiers

Team GB will face France in the qualifying round of the Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Qualifiers, for the second successive year running, but will play away next April, having beaten Anne Keothavong’s team in Coventry this year, meaning they will host April’s qualifiers.

We’re excited to bring the women’s World Cup of Tennis back to Seville and thanks to our work with ITF member the Real Federacion Espanola de Tenis (RFET), and to our partners the Region of Andalucia who share our vision for the growth of women’s sport, we can now focus on delivering another spectacular Finals for the fans in 2024. Seville has also again been confirmed as hosts for the BJK Cup Finals in November.

Eight ties will be played on a home-and-away basis on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 April 2024, and each consists of two singles matches on Day 1, and two singles matches followed by a doubles on Day 2.

The 8 winning nations from the Qualifiers will advance to the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Finals and join 2023 world champions Canada, 2023 runners-up Italy, hosts Spain and wild-card Czechia at the 2024 Finals in November.

The 8 losing nations from the Qualifiers will compete in Play-off ties alongside the best-performing teams from the 2024 regional Group I ties.

The full 2024 Qualifier draw results for the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge Qualifiers are, as follows:

  • Australia (1) (c)* v Mexico
  • Switzerland (2) (c)  v Poland
  • France (3) (c) v Great Britain
  • USA (4) (c) v Belgium
  • Japan (c)* v Kazakhstan (5)
  • Brazil (c) v Germany (6)
  • Slovakia (7) (c)* v Slovenia
  • Ukraine (c)* v Romania (8)

(#) = seed; (c) = choice of ground; * = choice of ground decided by lot

Due to the current situation in Ukraine, the ITF and BJK Cup Limited will work with the Ukrainian Tennis Federation to agree an appropriate host venue.

Seeds for the draw were based on the 2023 year-end Billie Jean King Cup by Gainbridge rankings – which include results from the Finals in Seville earlier this month. The eight seeded nations were drawn against the eight unseeded nations.

David Haggerty, ITF President, said: “We’re excited to bring the women’s World Cup of Tennis back to Seville and thanks to our work with ITF member the Real Federacion Espanola de Tenis (RFET), and to our partners the Region of Andalucia who share our vision for the growth of women’s sport, we can now focus on delivering another spectacular Finals for the fans in 2024.”

Ilana Kloss, Chair of the BJK Cup Limited Board, said: “We’re pleased with the success of this year’s Finals, and we are already making plans for a bigger, better, and bolder event in 2024.

“We want to thank all our sponsors and partners who share our vision for the future of this competition.”

Arturo Bernal, Region of Andalucia Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, said: “It is excellent news for Andalusian sport that the Billie Jean King Cup Finals will return.

“It highlights the work carried out just two weeks ago, when all the eyes of women’s tennis fans worldwide were in the capital of Seville. This was a great responsibility, and an opportunity to promote the Andalusian brand. The impact generated by a sporting event of such magnitude in our land was significant. It was a success and I am convinced that in 2024 it will be the same.”

Miguel Diaz, President Real Federacion Espanola de Tenis, said: “This year in Seville we worked hard to achieve our first Billie Jean King Cup title (we won five Fed Cups) for Spain. All the team made a great job, but tennis is a tough sport. Fans and players will have a new opportunity to play at home with the incomparable atmosphere of Seville. The colours and the smells of the Andalusian capital are inimitable. Seville and Spain are waiting the fans of all over the world with open arms.”
