London | ITF to Rebrand as World Tennis in 2026

The world of tennis is poised for a significant transformation as the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced plans to rebrand itself as World Tennis, effective January 1, 2026. This decision was reached during the ITF’s Annual General Meeting, which was held virtually, where a remarkable majority of its member associations voted in favor of the name change.

David Haggerty, the President of the ITF, expressed enthusiasm about this evolution, noting, “After more than 110 years of proud history as the ITF, I’m truly excited for our future as World Tennis as we continue to grow our contribution to the development of the game in all corners of the globe.” Haggerty emphasized that the new name better encapsulates the organization’s mission: to serve as the global governing body, fostering the sport of tennis and ensuring its accessibility to players of all levels around the world.

The rebranding initiative, recommended by the ITF Board and Executive, arises from a comprehensive process of research and discussions with various stakeholders in the tennis community. This process highlighted the necessity for a title that more accurately reflects the ITF’s expansive role and significance in worldwide tennis through its relationships with 213 national associations.

By transitioning to the World Tennis identity, the organization aims to create a clearer and more relevant brand that resonates with players, fans, partners, and other stakeholders, aligning itself with naming conventions commonly found in other major sports governing bodies. The new title also aligns with the recent expansion of the ITF’s sub-brands, including the World Tennis Tour and the World Tennis Number.

This name change is part of a broader strategy aimed at enhancing engagement, recognition, and investment in tennis, ranging from grassroots initiatives to elite level competitions. Haggerty stated, “This evolution follows extensive consultation across the global tennis community and reflects our shared ambition to strengthen, unify and grow the game worldwide.”

The ITF was originally established as the International Lawn Tennis Federation in Paris in 1913 and underwent a name update to the International Tennis Federation in 1977. The forthcoming change to World Tennis signifies a pivotal moment in the organization’s history, setting the stage for a fresh identity that will be unveiled during a phased rollout starting in the summer of 2026.

Overall, this rebranding signals the ITF’s commitment to adapting and thriving in the dynamic landscape of global sports, ensuring tennis remains a vibrant and inclusive pastime for future generations.
