Celta Vigo sealed its berth into the Copa Del Rey quarterfinals on Wednesday with American midfielder Luca De La Torre delivering a stellar individual performance.
De La Torre scored an audacious back-heel goal before also assisting once in Celta Vigo’s 3-1 Round of 16 triumph over Valencia. It marked the first goal contributions for De La Torre since October 8 in all competitions.
The 25-year-old broke the deadlock at Mestalla by flicking home inside of the box after 13 minutes. Valencia failed to clear its defensive lines, allowing De La Torre the opportunity to find the back of the net.
Despite Valencia pulling one goal back before halftime, De La Torre helped seal advancement with a deadly cross. De La Torre’s cross was headed home by Douvikas, sealing a 3-1 road win in the All-La Liga affair.
The result extended Celta Vigo’s current unbeaten run to four matches in all competitions.
La Liga play resumes for De La Torre and his Celta Vigo teammates on Saturday at home against Real Sociedad.
