Luka Doncic criticizes opponent for discussing personal matters

Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic was on the receiving end of some very personal heckling from a loud-mouthed fan when the Dallas Mavericks faced the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 2 on Thursday.

Doncic says he used the heckling, which was about his family, as motivation to play well. He finished the game with 29 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists as the Mavericks got the 119-110 road win to tie the series at 1-1.

“There was one guy courtside going at my family,” Doncic said postgame. “He’s a grown-ass man, just can’t do that. I didn’t do nothing, I just went back … It’s crazy. It’s a grown-ass man coming at my family, it’s kinda nuts.”

Doncic was also the recipient of a deafening “Luka sucks” chant. The chant broke out when the Mavericks were leading the Thunder 117-108 with 2:12 remaining in the game.

And just to top off an eventful night, Doncic’s postgame press conference was interrupted by the sounds of some rather explicit content blaring from someone’s phone or laptop. Doncic, who couldn’t help but laugh, said, “I hope that’s not live”.

Despite all the twists and turns on and off the court, it was a fruitful evening for the Mavs.

PJ Washington was excellent for Dallas, putting up 29 points and 11 rebounds on 7-11 shooting from three, while Kyrie Irving did a bit of everything and was much better than his nine points and 11 assists would suggest.

The Mavericks and Thunder will return to the court for Game 3 in Dallas on Saturday.
