Luka Doncic Shares How Klay Thompson’s Role is Crucial in Mavericks’ Pursuit of Championship Glory

Klay

Luka Doncic is locked in this season with one goal in mind, especially now that Klay Thompson has joined the team.

When asked to summarize Dallas’ approach for the season, Doncic simply replied, “Championship. That’s the goal.”

Doncic believes Klay will be a key player in the team’s pursuit of a championship.

“When me and Kai have the ball, you can’t leave Klay open,” Doncic explained. “If you do, he’s going to make it. So the spacing will be crucial for us, but I’ll have more to say about that after a few games.”

Irving echoed Doncic’s sentiments, expressing optimism about their dreams being within reach with Thompson on board.

“I feel like our dreams can be possible because he’s here now,” Irving said. “He’s added great value to our championship aspirations.”

Thompson acknowledges that it will take time to adapt to a new system different from the Warriors’ style.

“From an X’s and O’s standpoint, I’ll have to adjust to playing off of great creators,” Thompson noted. “In Golden State, it was a very motion-based offense. But playing with Luka the last few days, his pick-and-roll ability is maybe the best I’ve ever seen. It’ll be fun to play with him in those sets because he draws so much attention and creates open looks for the perimeter. I’ll be there to knock them down.

“It might take a couple of weeks to get used to this new system, but luckily opening night is not until Oct. 24. So this preseason will be crucial for me, and I can’t wait to learn the system. But I know I’m a hooper, so I can adjust and I look forward to it.”
