Madrid Open: Swiatek Set to Face Keys in Semifinal Clash

Madrid | Swiatek to meet Keys in semi-final

Top-seeded Iga Swiatek overcame a set deficit to defeat Beatriz Haddad Maia, 4-6 6-0 6-2, securing her spot in the Mutua Madrid Open semi-finals for the second consecutive year. On the same day, Madison Keys also staged a comeback after losing the first set in her quarter-final match to beat Ons Jabeur, 0-6 7-5 6-1. This sets up a semi-final clash between Swiatek and Keys.

Swiatek initially led 4-1 in the first set but Haddad Maia fought back to claim the opener. Swiatek responded emphatically by winning the next two sets, dropping just 2 games in the process. The Polish player is determined to win the Madrid Open, an event that has eluded her thus far.

This match marks the fifth semi-final appearance of the year for Swiatek. Keys, on the other hand, showed resilience after losing the first set to Jabeur, eventually securing the win.

In the upcoming semi-final match, Swiatek will face Keys, who is aiming for her fourth career WTA 1000-level final. Both players displayed impressive performances in their respective quarter-final matches, setting the stage for an exciting showdown in Madrid.
