NBA legend Magic Johnson expressed overwhelming enthusiasm and support for the Los Angeles Lakers’ potential hiring of UConn’s Dan Hurley as their new head coach.

Johnson took to X to share his excitement, emphasizing the transformative impact Hurley could have on the Lakers organization, its players, and the entire NBA community.

“I heard the great news that Lakers Owner Jeanie Buss and GM/VP of Basketball Operations Rob Pelinka have had conversations with back-to-back NCAA champion and current UCONN Head Coach, Dan Hurley, about becoming the next Lakers Head Coach! I’m so excited and thrilled! This would be a game changer for the Lakers organization, LeBron, AD, the rest of the Laker players, Laker Nation and the NBA! Coach Hurley can coach his butt off lol,” Johnson tweeted.

According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are prepared to extend a significant, long-term contract offer to secure Hurley’s services, recognizing his successful tenure at Connecticut.

Preliminary discussions have already commenced between Hurley and the Lakers, with both parties eager to explore the potential collaboration further.

Hurley’s illustrious coaching career, marked by back-to-back national championships at Connecticut and numerous accolades, underscores his credentials for the Lakers’ head coaching position.
