Mahut: Rune Has Potential to Win Major Despite Not Matching Sinner and Alcaraz’s Strength

Rune 'Not As Strong As Sinner And Alcaraz' But Can Win Major Says Mahut

Former ATP player Nicolas Mahut doesn’t believe that Holger Rune is at the same level as Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, but he still thinks Rune can win a Grand Slam.

Rune has been considered part of a trio alongside Alcaraz and Sinner, who are expected to dominate tennis in the coming years. Alcaraz and Sinner are currently ahead due to their Grand Slam wins.

However, Rune’s career stalled after a strong start last year. He has struggled with consistency and hasn’t been able to progress like Alcaraz and Sinner.

Mahut acknowledges Rune’s potential but believes he may not reach the same heights as Alcaraz and Sinner due to their superior skills.

“Rune won’t be satisfied until he wins a Grand Slam. I think he’s completely consumed by it. I wouldn’t be surprised if one day he manages to win one. Obviously he’s not as strong as Sinner and Alcaraz, but there will be more room than during the golden generation with Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray. There will be opportunities and I think he’ll be one of those players who can seize one.”

Rune is determined to achieve his goals of winning a Grand Slam and becoming ATP world number one.

While Rune has potential, he lags behind Alcaraz and Sinner in terms of accomplishments. He continues to work on his game to improve and find consistency.

Rune is currently competing at the Japan Open, showing promising performances. Success at this tournament could boost his confidence and propel his career forward.

Rune still has room for growth, especially in mental strength and consistency, areas where he has shown some weaknesses in the past.
