Malik Tillman, once a promising prospect for Bayern Munich, has found success in the Netherlands with PSV.
Currently in his second season with the Eredivisie champions, Tillman is representing the U.S. men’s national team in October friendlies against Panama and Mexico. After a stellar loan spell with PSV last season, where he scored nine goals and provided 15 assists on the way to winning his first league title at club level, PSV made his move permanent.
Despite initial expectations of a long-term stay at Bayern Munich, Tillman joined PSV permanently last summer. He now plays alongside USMNT teammates Ricardo Pepi, Sergino Dest, and Richie Ledezma.
In his time with PSV, Tillman has continued to shine, registering four goals and two assists in 11 appearances this season. His contributions have helped PSV maintain an unbeaten start in domestic competitions and secure a point in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
While preparing for the upcoming match against Panama, Tillman expressed his satisfaction with staying at PSV after a successful loan period.
“The decision ultimately rested with Bayern, and they didn’t see a future for me there,” Tillman explained during a media conference call. “PSV had the option to buy me, and I was pleased with that outcome. I wanted to stay at PSV, so I’m content with how things turned out.”
Having made his debut for the USMNT in 2022, Tillman is still chasing his first international goal after earning 14 caps. He will compete for midfield playing time in the upcoming matches over the next five days.
