Man United aims to sway promising talent Chido Obi-Martin away from Arsenal – Latest updates on Manchester United’s roster and transfers

Academy Match Report: Manchester United u18s 3-1 Everton u18s - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are rumoured to be trying to convince Chido Obi-Martin to leave Arsenal.

Arsenal have yet to confirm their first-year scholars ahead of the 2024/25 season, but it is expected that Chido Obi-Martin will not be amongst the group.

The 16-year-old is attracting interest from across Europe after a sensational season at youth level.

Manchester United have joined the chase according to @AcademyScoop on Twitter stating, “I’m told one of the most talented academy players in England visited Carrington on Tuesday.”

He further added “Chido Obi-Martin visited Carrington earlier this week to discuss a move to Manchester United.”

“The record-breaking striker is yet to agree scholarship terms with Arsenal and could be set for a move to Old Trafford despite constructive talks with Mikel Arteta.”

AcademyScoop, who has become a reliable source of information on youth players particularly relating to United, later deleted the tweet identifying Obi-Martin as the player.

The academy star has also removed Arsenal from his Instagram bio, fuelling further speculation that a move is likely.

Despite still being a schoolboy, Obi-Martin scored a sensational 32 goals in 18 appearances in the U18 Premier League last season.

Eligible for Nigeria, England, and Denmark internationally, Obi-Martin has represented the latter two but has most recently opted for his place of birth, Denmark.

With 10 goals in 14 appearances for the Denmark U17 side, Obi-Martin led the young Danes to the semi-finals of the U17 European Championship last month before falling 0-1 to Italy.

Interest from European giants such as Bayern Munich has also been reported, meaning United will have a fight on their hands to seal any deal.

Looking for a path to first-team football, United offer a history of developing academy players and giving them chances, the latest of which includes another striker in Ethan Wheatley.

The likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have shown that at United, youngsters are afforded the opportunity to shine, with the duo currently considered superstars of the future. United offer an interesting case study to convince Obi-Martin.

Despite having two young strikers in the first team in Rasmus Hojlund and new signing Joshua Zirkzee, neither have lit the world alight, and that may just tempt Obi-Martin into believing he can overtake them in years to come.
