Man United bypassed Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries in recent transfer window – Latest Manchester United News and Transfer Updates

Manchester United snubbed Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries this summer - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United were offered the opportunity to sign Aston Villa target Denzel Dumfries during the recently concluded transfer window, as per reports.

Villa, who headed into the summer window with Champions League football on the table, ambitiously tried to sign Dumfries from Inter Milan, according to Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness).

Unai Emery’s side approached the Netherlands international, but he did not give the green light for a move to Birmingham.

Interestingly, after Dumfries turned down Villa, his agent and intermediaries reportedly tried to push the attacking full-back to Old Trafford.

Further, the 28-year-old, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the San Siro, would have joined Erik ten Hag’s side if it were up to him, as his “preference was Manchester United.”

Despite his camp’s efforts and Dumfries’ desire, United opted against offering him an escape route, leading to the Dutchman deciding to stay in Milan, as there were no other convincing opportunities.

The Italian outlet adds the Red Devils had other plans for the position.

United allowed right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka to move to West Ham United and replaced him with Noussair Mazraoui, who joined the club from Bayern Munich alongside Dumfries’ fellow countryman, Matthijs de Ligt.

While Dumfries wanted United, Wan-Bissaka was allegedly more inclined to play abroad amid interest from Inter. Ultimately, both players did not get their wish.

Now, the Inter star is reportedly set to sign a new deal at the Serie A giants, ending all the speculation surrounding his future. His renewal is expected to be announced imminently.

With Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot at his disposal, Erik ten Hag is unlikely to be in the market for a new right-back anytime soon.

According to a report from The MEN, the Mancunian giants’ provisional plan is to bring in “a defender, a midfielder and a winger next summer.”
