Man United Makes Inquiries About Ruben Amorim According to Sky Sports Germany – Latest News on Man United Transfers

Man United add Ruben Amorim to shortlist of managers to replace Erik ten Hag - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have made “specific enquiries” over the potential of appointing Sporting manager Ruben Amorim should the club decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag, Florian Plettenberg reveals.

The Sky Sports Germany reporter contends the Red Devils are “interested” in the Portuguese coach who has a contract with Sporting until 2026.

Tweet: “Ruben #Amorim is not only on the list at Manchester City as a possible replacement for Pep #Guardiola, but Manchester United in particular are also interested in him ✔️

#MUFC have already made specific inquiries about him and his situation. The Red Devils want to be prepared but still trust Erik ten Hag for now.

39y/o Amorim is not planning a move in winter since he has big ambitions with Sporting. ⚠️ However, his contract, which is valid until 2026, includes a release clause next summer.”

Manchester City had emerged as a frontrunner for the 39-year-old coach should Pep Guardiola choose to leave the Etihad at the end of the season. The Spaniard’s contract will expire in June and is yet to reach an agreement to extend it.

Plettenberg contends the Citizens see Amorim as a “possible replacement” for Guardiola with the Portuguese coach’s philosophy attacking and attractive in equal measure. It’s also effective.

Sporting have won two domestic titles, as well as two cups and one Super Cup during Amorim’s four-year tenure at the club. It had previously been twenty years since the Portuguese giant’s last league win before Amorim’s appointment.

Accordingly, the 39-year-old is widely considered one of the best young managerial talents throughout Europe and it’s little wonder the two Manchester clubs look set to battle over his appointment, should either need to make a managerial change in the near future.

Ten Hag is under huge pressure following United’s dismal start to the season. Many had predicted he would not survive the international break with the club’s ownership and executive branch convening last Tuesday for boardroom talks.

And while sources at Old Trafford stress this was a scheduled meeting, arranged far before the team’s current struggles, it’s naive to believe the Dutchman’s position was not high on the itinerary. However, for now, it appears, Ten Hag’s future in Manchester looks secure.

Plettenberg confirms the club “still trust” the 54-year-old but a continuation of the poor results and, perhaps even more crucially, performances will see the furore over Ten Hag ramp back up once again.

The Sky Sports reporter’s contention that Old Trafford officials have made “enquiries” over Amorim’s potential availability suggests the club is acutely aware of the need for a plan should this situation unfold – which appears far more likely than not.

However, Plettenberg reveals Amorim is “not planning” a winter move away from Portugal given he has “big ambitions” with Sporting. The 39-year-old’s contract also contains a release clause which becomes valid next summer.
