Man United Set Sights on Rising Star: Journalist Reveals Amorim's Admiration for 22-Year-Old Midfieldern

Manchester United Eyes Midfield Reinforcements This Summer

Manchester United is considering options to enhance their squad during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The team has experienced inconsistency this season, compounded by injury setbacks that have affected their performance under manager Ruben Amorim.

With the January transfer window approaching, the club views this as a prime time to bring in fresh talent and keep pace with rivals in the Premier League.

A particular area of concern for Amorim’s side has been the midfield.

The unpredictable performances of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte’s struggle to adapt to English football may compel United to seek a new midfielder shortly.

Manchester United Targets a Midfielder

While players like Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson, and Carlos Baleba are on the club’s radar, acquiring any of them this January seems unlikely.

United is now keeping an eye on another promising midfielder who has been making waves in Spain.

According to journalist Dean Jones, Atletico Madrid’s Pablo Barrios has caught the attention of Amorim and his staff.

“It’s difficult to determine how seriously he is a target right now, but I’ve heard that Manchester United hold Barrios in high regard,” Jones stated.

“Their interest may have emerged while evaluating Conor Gallagher, but regardless of how it began, he’s been positively discussed at various clubs, including United.”

“Gallagher is an option, but Barrios would suit what United aims for in the long run – Amorim isn’t just looking for a midfielder on loan; he wants players who align with the club’s future vision.”

“Atletico is unlikely to part with him, as he has become a vital part of their midfield, but they may face challenges in retaining Barrios through 2026.”

Barrios is recognized as a skillful, strong, and intelligent player who has showcased his abilities under Diego Simeone.

However, signing Gallagher may prove simpler for Manchester United compared to pursuing Barrios.

Challenges Ahead for Manchester United in Securing Barrios

Barrios, regarded as a key player for Atletico Madrid, has a €120 million release clause and is contracted until 2030, putting the Spanish club in a strong position to retain him.

Conversely, Gallagher has struggled to secure playing time this season, making his acquisition more viable for Amorim and his recruitment team.

It’s important to note that United previously made an attempt to sign Gallagher in the summer, which was declined by the Spanish team.
