Man United to postpone managerial decision as Gareth Southgate’s England duties take precedence – Updates on Man United’s managerial situation

Man United prepared to delay managerial decision due to Gareth Southgate's England commitments - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United has identified Gareth Southgate as their top choice to replace Erik ten Hag, but Southgate’s decision to focus on EURO 2024 before discussing his future is causing a delay in the decision.

Miguel Delaney from The Independent reports that United executives see Southgate as a coach who can bring about a cultural change at Old Trafford similar to what he achieved with the England national team.

Sir Dave Brailsford and Dan Ashworth are believed to support Southgate, with a focus on building a strong coaching staff to assist him in areas where his tactical and training skills may be lacking.

Southgate remains committed to focusing on England and will not engage in discussions about his future career move at this time.

In a recent interview, Southgate stated that his primary focus is on England, causing delays in potential contract talks with Manchester United.

As a result, the decision to replace Ten Hag may take longer than expected due to Southgate’s commitment to the Euros and England’s potential success in the tournament.

Ten Hag is hoping to continue as manager but is seeking clarity about his future at the club, with United considering other options such as Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, and Thomas Frank if the pursuit of Southgate fails.

While Frank has impressed, Tuchel’s outlook may not align with United’s long-term goals, making him a less appealing option.
