Manchester United aiming to bolster midfield with multiple signings this summer – latest updates on transfers

Al Nassr have numerous reservations regarding Casemiro deal - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United struggled to adapt to manager Erik ten Hag’s methods this past season and a revamp in the centre of the park is much needed.

In the Dutchman’s first season, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen were the manager’s go-to preference but after the Dutchman employed his high transition style, both struggled due to their lack of pace.

The former Tottenham Hotspur star only started 14 games in all competitions last term as opposed to 37 in his first season as a Red.

As for the Brazilian, he was arguably the signing of the season when he first arrived in Manchester but struggled to adapt to the manager’s chaos ball style and did not even make the bench for the FA Cup final which the Red Devils won.

Midfield requirement

Both the Dane and former Real Madrid superstar have been linked with exits and new co-owners INEOS are trying to find the right long-term partner for Kobbie Mainoo.

According to a report, Manchester United are looking at signing two midfielders with a keen eye on finding the right defensive midfield replacement for the five-time Champions League winner.

One of the players being eyed is Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes, while Benfica ace Joao Neves is also in consideration.

The club had submitted their first bid for Joao Neves, but it was rejected.

On-loan Sofyan Amrabat has not fared too well throughout the season, but his final display has many calling for the Moroccan to be given a permanent deal.

Manchester United are set to push forward with plans to sign two midfield reinforcements this summer, according to GIVEMESPORT sources, with Wolverhampton Wanderers star Joao Gomes still among those on their engine room shortlist.

Two Midfielders being eyed

“A key area that is in major need of a reshuffle is the middle of the park. The respective futures of Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat are hanging in the balance and Christian Eriksen’s age proved costly in 2023/24, meaning Kobbie Mainoo is in need of a midfield partner.

GMS sources say that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS-led regime are looking to acquire two midfielders this summer.”

It is well known that the team’s budget is not too high and the club need to sign more than one centre-back and also an elite strike partner for Rasmus Hojlund.

Can United afford to buy so many players in one window? Can INEOS complete a full first-team squad revamp this summer? All eyes are on Sir Jim Ratcliffe with just a few days left for the window to open.
