Manchester United Beat Southampton 3-0: Player Ratings and Transfer Updates – Man United News

Southampton 0 - 3 Manchester United: Player Ratings - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United got back to winning ways as they cruised to a 3-0 away victory over Southampton Here are our player ratings from the match.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Andre Onana 9 – His penalty save in the first half was the turning point for United. Up until then, the Reds were poor and Southampton were the dominant side. His heroic save sparked United into life at St Mary’s.

Noussair Mazraoui 7 – Very solid performance. Combined well with Amad to form a deadly right flank that Southampton found hard to contain. Got forward a lot and even had a shot on goal.

Matthijs de Ligt 8 – A rock at the back! Made a number of crucial interceptions and tackles. He grabbed United’s opener and what a response after a very tumultuous international break with the Netherlands.

Lisandro Martinez 7 – Much better performance from the Argentine. Looked more like himself. His line-breaking passes helped United beat the Southampton blocks and get higher up the pitch.

Diogo Dalot 3 – The weak link in defence today. Tyler Dibling gave him a torrid time, especially in the first half, when the Southampton forward constantly got the better of him. His reckless tackle on Dibling saw the Saints awarded a penalty but fortunately for the Portugal international, Onana spared him some blushes.

Kobbie Mainoo 5 – Not his best performance. Gave the ball away a few times and didn’t offer the control he usually does. To be fair to him, he had more defensive responsibilities than usual as a result of Casemiros dropping from the starting XI.

Christian Eriksen 6 – An OK display. Put in some good corners.

Bruno Fernandes 7 – Similar to Eriksen. Superb assist for De Ligt’s headed finish.

Amad Diallo 8 – Undoubtedly United’s main source of attacking threat. Things happened when he got the ball. Registered an assist for Rashford’s strike that sealed the victory for the team.

Marcus Rashford 7 – A quiet start but enjoyed some good moments late on in the first half, capped by a sensational goal to double United’s lead.

Joshua Zirkzee 8 – Fantastic link-up play. Didn’t get on the score sheet but he made the attack gel. A lot to like about how he played. Had a good chance to score towards the end when Mainoo set him up but he failed to convert.

Substitutes

Alejandro Garnacho 6 – Did well during the time he was on the pitch.

Harry Maguire 6 – Helped United get over the line. Won his headers and received a harsh yellow for his troubles.

Manuel Ugarte 7 – Gave fans a good glimpse of what to expect going forward. His passing was good and assured. He scanned well to be aware of his surroundings.

Jonny Evans 6 – Did his job.

Casemiro 6 – Same as Evans.
