Manchester United decide not to pursue former Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino

Man United cool interest in former Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino

Manchester United have decided to cool their interest in former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, despite him being the preferred choice of club legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

There is still uncertainty surrounding the managerial position at the Manchester club as they approach the end of their end-of-season review. A decision on the future of current manager Erik ten Hag is expected this week, as reported by Sky Sports.

Thomas Tuchel has already been ruled out as a candidate for the Man United job, and according to The Times, it is now unlikely that Pochettino will be in contention to take over at Old Trafford next season if Ten Hag is sacked.

According to HITC’s Graeme Bailey, Sir Alex Ferguson had been advocating for Pochettino to be the new manager at Manchester United, with the backing of INEOS CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

It remains unclear why United have shifted their focus away from Pochettino, as another candidate has now emerged as the frontrunner.

Roberto De Zerbi emerges as front runner for Manchester United job

With both Tuchel and Pochettino no longer in contention, Roberto De Zerbi is now the leading candidate to take the helm at Manchester United next season if Ten Hag departs.

While there have been suggestions from Old Trafford that INEOS would prefer England coach Gareth Southgate as their next manager, a move for him during the Euros this summer presents challenges.

De Zerbi stands out as a strong candidate, having recently left Brighton. He brings Premier League experience and a style of play that would resonate well with the fans.

However, all speculations regarding managerial changes at the club remain hypothetical until a decision is made regarding Ten Hag’s future at Manchester United.
