Here are our player ratings from the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

First-half ratings

Andre Onana 7 – Got down well to claim the book during the few occasions that Rangers fired tame shots at his goal. He seemed to be constantly issuing instructions to his backline. His distribution was also good.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 6 – Got forward well. Also made good recovery runs when required.

Leny Yoro 8 – Sensational debut. Easy to see why United were so eager to sign him. Came up with a few crucial blocks and tackles that kept Rangers from breaching Onanas goal. His passing was exceptional. Was always calm and in control even when under pressure

Jonny Evans 6 – Was comfortable and guided Yoro well. He did what was required of him.

Sam Murray 6 – Got forward well and combined superbly with Sancho on the left.

Casemiro 6 – Decent performance

Toby Collyer 7 – Handled the ball well. There was an instance in which Rangers broke through and he rushed back to snuff out the danger.

Mason Mount 7 – Aggressively pressed and registered an assist for Amad’s goal.

Jadon Sancho 7 – Much better from Sancho in a red shirt. Had some nice touches and used the ball well. Had a chance to find the back of the net when Amad set him up but he sent his effort over the bar.

Amad Diallo 9 – Undoubtedly United’s best player. He was the team’s primary source of threat and scored a stunning goal for the opener. Was a constant pain in the backside of the Rangers defenders.

Ethan Wheatley 7 – Had some nice touches, pressed well and always showed up for the ball. Much more involved than he was against Rosenborg.

Andre Onana 6 – Didn’t have much to do in the second period. Kept it nice and simple.
