Manchester United finalise deal with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite – Latest Transfer News from Old Trafford

Manchester United aiming to use Harry Maguire as bait for Jarrad Branthwaite - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have reportedly struck an agreement with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite over personal terms. Reinforcing the backline is one of United’s highest priorities heading into the transfer window and now that Erik ten Hag’s future has been sorted, the club’s plans can go into full swing. United have been linked to several defenders such as Leny Yoro (Lille), Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Max Kilman (Wolves), Ronald Araujo (Barcelona), Aaron Anselmino (Boca Juniors) and of course, Branthwaite. Branthwaite played a crucial part in the 2023/24 season as he helped Everton avoid relegation despite the club suffering a points deduction at some point during the campaign. The defender made 35 Premier League appearances and helped the Toffees keep 12 clean sheets. He also registered three goals in the process.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United were confident of sealing a double deal for Branthwaite and Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise. A subsequent report then divulged that the Red Devils were expecting a deal for Branthwaite to be completed. The Times have now given a huge update on United’s pursuit of the England international.

The newspaper states, “Manchester United’s ambitions of signing Jarrad Branthwaite, Everton’s England defender, have been given a huge boost after the clubs agreed personal terms with the player’s representatives.” “United have yet to agree a transfer fee with Everton – who are believed to be holding out for about £70million – but the agreement with the 21-year-old’s representatives is a significant step forward.” “The agreement would result in Branthwaite, who just missed out on England’s Euro 2024 squad, being paid between £150,000 and £160,000 a week, according to sources with knowledge of the negotiations.”

The Times note that Everton – who are in dire financial shape – may be forced to cash in on the 21-year-old in order to secure funds quickly. It’s understood that the Merseyside outfit want £70m for Branthwaite. United are unlikely to go this high and ultimately, a compromise may need to be found between the two parties. Should Branthwaite’s switch to Old Trafford get over the line, he’s poised to get a mega pay rise. It’s believed that he currently earns around £ 35,000 per week at Goodison Park.

The Times add that United are eager to sign two centre-backs. It won’t be just Branthwaite if that particular deal happens.
