Manchester United are expected to be closing in on a decision on the future of loanee Sofyan Amrabat.
Signed on a season-long loan from Fiorentina, Amrabat had a mixed season at Old Trafford, creating uncertainty over whether Man United will decide to keep him on next season. The Moroccan’s contract contains a €20 million option to buy should the club decide to sign him on a permanent basis.
While the club’s opinion on the player may be shrouded in mystery, Amrabat appears to be interested in remaining at the club. The Peoples Person relayed that the holding midfielder enjoys living in Manchester and feels that he has enjoyed a better experience with his teammates than he would at other clubs.
In early July, rumours surrounding Amrabat’s future started to swirl after he and Casemiro, whose United career is also in question, were featured in the club’s kit launch for the new season.
A few days later, it was reported that United are indeed interested in keeping Amrabat at the club, thereby adding to the mounting rumours. It was added, however, that the club would look to purchase Amrabat at a reduced fee of €15 million.
This report backed up an earlier claim alleging that manager Erik ten Hag would like to keep Amrabat at the club rather than signing a replacement.
Just three days ago, it appeared as if United were exploring further alternative ways to keep Amrabat at Old Trafford without breaking the bank.
Rather than signing him permanently, even on a reduced fee, it was claimed that United’s new sporting director, Dan Ashworth, may consider signing Amrabat on another season-long loan.
There were, however, earlier reports claiming that the likes of Juventus were interested in Amrabat, meaning United may not have time on their side when it comes to deciding what to do with the midfielder.
While so many reports may serve to further confuse the situation, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that United fans may soon receive clarity on Amrabat’s future.
In his Daily Briefing, Romano had this to say: “There will … be a decision next week on Sofyan Amrabat, so it depends on United, they will decide next week.”
Romano added that whatever United decide, Amrabat appears ready to depart Fiorentina as “he wants to try a different project.”
While the likes of Joao Neves and Manuel Ugarte have been constantly linked with a move to Old Trafford, United may just be better off keeping the player they know, especially if he is available for a far less expensive price while also displaying an affinity to the club.
