Manchester United Officially Announces Appointment of Goalkeeping Coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar

Manchester United are set to hire goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have officially confirmed the arrival of new goalkeeping coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar.

A report covered by The Peoples Person earlier this month relayed that United were set to hire Ten Rouwelaar as a replacement for Richard Hartis.

Hartis left United after five years with the club.

Ten Rouwelaar had agreed to join Eredivisie giants Ajax and United needed to negotiate an exit for him in order to facilitate the move to Old Trafford.

The Dutch coach came up through the ranks with Emmen as a player before he moved to PSV Eindhoven. While contracted to PSV, he spent time out on loan at Groningen, Twente, PEC Zwolle, and FC Eindhoven.

A switch to Austria Wien followed before he was added to the ranks at NAC Breda just twelve months later. He spent nine years with NAC Breda, racking up more than 300 appearances in the process.

Ten Rouwelaar then joined Vincent Kompany at Belgian outfit Anderlecht and then followed the former Manchester City defender to Burnley.

There was an agreement in place for Ten Rouwelaar to go to Ajax but it seems that when United entered the fray, he simply couldn’t turn down the opportunity to lend his expertise to the Red Devils.

Ten Hag said about Ten Rouwelaar’s appointment, “Jelle is experienced with English football and he has some great innovations in goalkeeping, a new approach, and it’s very interesting.”

“I’m convinced he will really help our game, as a team, but especially the keepers, as a squad, as a team, their position in the team, and how they’re aligned with the rest of the team and playing as a collective.”

It seems that Ten Rouwelaar has wasted no time in getting to work with the players.

The 43-year-old was spotted putting the players through their paces just before their pre-season friendly clash in Norway against Rosenborg. He was present alongside Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake.

In their statement, United note that after the match vs. Rosenborg, Ten Rouwelaar will return to Carrington to work with Andre Onana, who remained in England to build up his fitness.
