Manchester United prepares to extend Amad Diallo’s contract for the long term – Latest updates on United’s transfer news

Amad Diallo changes agent ahead of busy summer window at Manchester United - Man United News And Transfer News

A difficult last season meant INEOS were forced to plan a summer clearout with plenty of big stars set to be on their way out. However, Manchester United also identified a few players who will be kept on and will form the core of the squad moving forward.

Most of the list is comprised of young, breakout stars like Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, and Kobbie Mainoo. FA Cup hero against Liverpool, Amad Diallo is also on that list after he finished the season strong.

The Ivorian got injured in pre-season and was constantly linked with an exit until his heroics against Liverpool and Newcastle in the league meant the club had a change of heart.

He ended up making 12 appearances last season, three of them as a starter, and scored twice and registered a sole assist.

Amad is the new unsellable

Erik ten Hag increasingly began to trust the 21-year-old as the season progressed and the club even rejected a bid from an unnamed European giant for the former Atalanta starlet.

While Amad is expected to play a key role moving forward, his current deal with the club ends in 2025 with the Red Devils having the option of extending it by a year.

The Old Trafford side do not want to risk losing the skilled forward on a free and as per HITC, United are expected to begin talks over a new deal.

Dan Ashworth, who recently joined as sporting director, is said to be prioritising tying down important players on long-term deals and he is expected to take up the Amad contract issue very soon.

New deal in the pipeline

As soon as he joined after a lengthy delay, he was kept busy trying to agree a new deal with the Dutch boss and now that that is taken care of, the former Newcastle sporting director will look into player contracts.

“The left-footed winger has 12 months remaining on his current contract, but all of that could now change.

“HITC can confirm that Manchester United are now pushing to tie Amad down to a new deal, with new sporting director Dan Ashworth looking to players who have contract issues that need resolving, having finalised a new deal for manager ten Hag.”

The winger will be hoping to impress Ten Hag early on in pre-season so as to become a starter once the new season begins.
