Manchester United set sights on Brighton forward Evan Ferguson for summer transfer – Latest Man United News and Transfer Updates

Manchester United target Brighton striker Evan Ferguson in summer transfer window - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United are on the hunt for a new striker this summer with the team desperately in need in reinforcements up front.

Last summer, Man United signed Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta – a successful signing given the young Dane’s 16 goals in 43 games in all competitions.

Still, with Antony Martial departing Old Trafford, Hojlund remains as the only natural striker at the club.

In order to provide support to Hojlund so as not to exhaust the youngster, United appear to have their sights set on another up-and-coming star in the upcoming transfer window.

ManchesterWorld reported that the club has had a long-term interest in Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.

Ferguson made quite the splash when he was promoted to Brighton’s first team in the 2022-23 season, scoring 16 goals in 34 appearances for the club, including three goals in just four FA Cup fixtures. (Transfermarkt)

Still, one can’t help but acknowledge the risk that comes with signing the 19-year-old given the major drop-off in form that he suffered this past season.

Having recently suffered an ankle injury, Ferguson’s season was one to forget, with the teenager scoring just six goals in 27 Premier League appearances.

Despite his performance slump, Ferguson’s age and potential appear to have kept up United’s interest in him. He also happens to fit the profile of INEOS’ new transfer strategy for the club.

As mentioned by The Peoples Person, INEOS will no longer conform to manager Erik ten Hag’s single-minded power when it comes to signings in the market.

Instead, the club will shift its transfer strategy toward British players with proven Premier League experience, which Ferguson possesses.

Still, the club’s purchase of Ferguson will depend heavily on his price tag. With Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly unwilling to allow United to continue splashing large sums of cash on expensive signings, Ferguson’s price tag will no doubt have a major impact on how likely he is to build a future at Old Trafford.
