After Andre Onana’s disappointing first season at Old Trafford, Manchester United are considering a move for Real Sociedad goalkeeper Alex Remiro.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Red Devils have inquired about Remiro’s release clause in preparation for a potential summer transfer.
The Spanish team has set the player’s release clause at €70 million (£60 million), which Manchester United must activate if they intend to sign him.
Since his arrival from Inter Milan at the start of the season, Andre Onana has been Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper.
This season, Onana—who took over from club legend David De Gea—has conceded 55 goals in the Premier League alone.
With three matches remaining in the season, Manchester United have a negative goal difference.
Although manager Erik Ten Hag appreciates Onana’s ability to play with his feet, he has not been the most reliable option in goal for the Red Devils.
Throughout the current season, Remiro has made 33 appearances in La Liga for his team, keeping 13 clean sheets.
If the transfer is successful, Remiro’s name may feature on the list of players Manchester United are looking to offload from their squad in the summer.
With Remiro’s contract expiring in June 2027, Real Sociedad are keen to retain the player.
The new management, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has been looking into Remiro’s situation and has recently inquired about his release clause through his representatives.
Manchester United should retain confidence in Onana for the future
It would be surprising if Manchester United were to part ways with Onana after making a significant investment in him just last summer.
The club should trust in Onana and build the team around him as their first-choice goalkeeper.
Manchester United have other pressing issues to address in strengthening their squad.
