Manchester United set to retain Harry Maguire in January transfer window – Latest update on Man United’s transfer news

Manchester United unlikely to sell Harry Maguire in January - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire’s future at Old Trafford is safe for now, as per reports.

Erik ten Hag oversaw his third straight summer transfer window in which United added a new central defender to their ranks. And yet Maguire remains a key part of his backline.

This summer, the Red Devils signed Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt. The ex-Lille prodigy is still to feature this term after suffering an injury setback during pre-season.

The former Bayern Munich man, meanwhile, has had a shaky start to his United career and was benched in favour of Maguire against Aston Villa.

During the international break, reports suggested the Englishman could attract bids from other clubs in the January transfer window. The Peoples Person relayed a report suggesting United will consider selling the 31-year-old during the winter window for as little as £10m.

However, according to GIVEMESPORT Maguire is unlikely to leave United “in the near future”, as they claim his career in Manchester has taken an “unexpected twist”.

The former club skipper is no longer a guaranteed starter, but he has frequently been used by Ten Hag due to injury crisis at the back.

Further, his presence is valued in the United dressing room. Despite losing his starting place to the Dutchman’s new signings, Maguire reportedly continues to stay “extremely focused and professional.”

The report suggests that unless a huge bid comes in January, INEOS are unlikely to part ways with him before the end of the season.

However, there is a “strong possibility” that this will be his final campaign at United. The ball-playing centre-back joined the club in 2019 in a record transfer from Leicester City.

He has entered the final 12 months of his contract, although the Mancunians retain an option to extend the deal by a further year.

Maguire’s long-time partner at the back, Victor Lindelof, is also seemingly nearing his end at United, with both Jose Mourinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic keen to reunite with the Swede at Fenerbahçe and AC Milan respectively.
