Manchester United Successfully Appeal Bruno Fernandes’ Red Card Against Tottenham Hotspur – Latest Updates on Man United’s News and Transfer Deals

Four things we learned as Manchester United fall to disheartening 0-3 loss to Tottenham Hotspur - Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have confirmed that they have won their appeal of Bruno Fernandes’ red card against Tottenham Hotspur.

Fernandes was sent off for the first time in his United career on Sunday, as the club suffered a devastating 0-3 loss against Spurs at Old Trafford.

United were second best in almost every department and were deservedly beaten by a rampant Spurs, whose goals were grabbed by the attacking trio of Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke.

A few minutes before the break, Fernandes slipped and in the process, lunged in on rival midfielder James Maddison with a high challenge.

The United skipper didn’t make contact with his studs but this certainly didn’t prevent referee Chris Kavanagh from immediately brandishing a red card and giving the Portugal international his marching orders.

Kavanagh wasn’t instructed to review his decision – which sparked a lot of debate – by VAR.

The Premier League later issued a statement, indicating that VAR checked the incident and confirmed that the referee’s call of serious foul play was the right one.

In his post-match remarks, Fernandes asserted his innocence as he revealed that Maddison himself told him that it wasn’t a red card offence.

United have now relayed via their official website that Fernandes’ red card has been overturned after they lodged a successful appeal.

The Red Devils note, “Bruno Fernandes will be available for Manchester United’s next three games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.”

Meanwhile, United will be seeking to get back to winning ways as they meet Porto on Thursday in their second group clash of the Europa League.
