Manchester United targeting promising Danish talent Patrick Dorgu as solution to left-back issues – Latest Manchester United Transfer Update

Man United eyeing young Danish star Patrick Dorgu, dubbed the next Gareth Bale, to fix left-back woes - Man United News And Transfer News

Just like last season, left-back continues to be a problem position for Manchester United in the new campaign with Erik ten Hag without a specialist senior option currently.

Luke Shaw sustained yet another injury in pre-season and is yet to return while Tyrell Malacia’s injury nightmare remains ongoing with the club hopeful he can return in October.

For now, the Dutch manager has been playing Diogo Dalot in that position while new signing Noussair Mazraoui can also play there. Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez could also be shoehorned into that position in case of an emergency.

The situation is not ideal but after a summer of heavy expenditure, INEOS could not find the space to bring in a left-back despite initial plans of recruiting a free agent or a player on loan.

LB needed

Those plans were pushed back to the winter market and now HITC have claimed the Red Devils are keeping a close eye on Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu.

The 19-year-old took only 47 seconds to make his mark, scoring on his international debut for Denmark against Switzerland and this will only add to the intrigue surrounding him.

The Danish star has earned comparison with former Premier League legend Gareth Bale, who had also started his career as a full-back, with Dorgu excelling moving forward just like the Welsh wizard.

He was close to a move to Chelsea but the prospect of playing on loan at the Blues’ sister club Strasbourg did not entice him and the move failed to materialize.

United and Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for him with multiple European giants hot on their heels, including Bayern Munich who view him as Alphonso Davies’ eventual successor.

“Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are watching Lecce and Denmark full-back Patrick Dorgu after he turned down a potential move to Premier League giants Chelsea.

“Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have checked on the 19-year-old. The Red Devils are in the market for a left-back due to the injury issues of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

Dorgu, a man in demand

“Spurs, meanwhile, are eyeing competition for £21 million phenomenon Destiny Udogie with Ben Davies’ contract due to expire next summer.

“HITC understands that Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are also watching Dorgu closely. The Serie A speedster is viewed at the Allianz Arena as a potential replacement for Alphonso Davies.”

Dorgu’s current deal ends in 2027 and has a market value of €12 million and Lecce will likely demand a lot more for their rising star with Fabrizio Romano saying on his YouTube channel that the Serie A outfit will demand a minimum £30 million.

The player fits INEOS’ vision of signing young upcoming stars and it will be interesting to see if an approach is made in the winter or if the club will wait till next summer to strike.
