Marcus Spears Voices Strong Opinion on Caleb Williams, Bears

The NFL offseason is also known as talking season for pundits and teams alike.

Whenever a great player is added to a team, everybody immediately thinks and talks about what that team could be that year.

ESPN analyst Marcus Spears had a bold take on “First Take” Thursday morning while talking about Caleb Williams possibly helping the Chicago Bears make the playoffs.

“The NFC is pretty young at quarterback right now. So if you get a transcendent guy, a guy that can really play at a very high level…he can have that type of impact,” Spears said.

Williams will most likely be heading to Chicago at pick No. 1 overall.

It would be an absolute stunner if he went anywhere else.

Now, does he make the Bears playoff contenders?

That is a bit of a stretchy take.

Chicago has made the playoffs just twice in the last 13 seasons.

Spears should take that into account, as well as the fact that Williams will need to become acclimated to the NFL game.

He might have some solid weapons in Keenan Allen and DJ Moore, but he won’t be going up against average Pac-12 defenses.

The talent of the former Heisman Trophy winner is very evident, but people should expect a raw start for Williams.

Oh, he also is in a division with the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.

Green Bay has won the last 10 meetings against Chicago, and Detroit won the NFC North last year.

The 49ers, Cowboys, Eagles, Buccaneers, Falcons, and Rams are all dangerous too.

In year one, the playoffs are a lofty goal for Chicago and Williams.
